20. Digital Creation: Reconnecting our Digital and Physical Worlds

Digital Literacy Lab for Educators

This video grounds our discussion of digital creation within our understanding of what it means to create physical content. It meanwhile underlines the resulting paradox when we compare and contrast these two possible creation arenas: there is important similarity but equally, crucial difference between the two that should inform how and if we create online.

In other words, here, Dr Emma Pauncefort brings the considerations of physical content – author, ownership and lifespan – to bear on our discussion of online content with the caveat that online and offline content behave differently. She is particularly interested in exploring how the dynamism of online content often lies beyond our control as opposed to the often static existence of physical content. Her overarching aim is to encourage a nuanced view of the relationship between digital and physical creation.
