This video thinks about elephants and the lifespans of digital content within the context of the individual i.e. how we are impacted by our digital creations, whether they are short- or long-lived. A snapshot of many a cautionary tale shows us time and time again how one quick tweet or Facebook post can result in devastating consequences for the individual concerned, whether or not this is fair (cue the ‘cancel culture’ debate). Online information sharing can be a great force for good and hold the seemingly untouchable to account (cue now the #MeToo movement). But we should be clear that we don’t need to be famous to find ourselves caught up in the vicious cycle, fast or slow, of digital creation with damaging outcomes.
