The pandemic overshadows the International Day of Education
The International Day of Education was celebrated on 24th January 2021 with an estimated 91% of students without access to their school as a result of the pandemic.
Education is considered as a fundamental human right and sanctioned by the United Nations. according to Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO Director General, it is “the most powerful aid to development that we have. Defending the future of this right means defending the right to the future.”
The theme chosen for this year was ‘Recover and Revitalize Education for the COVID-19 Generation’. The OECD is examining the responses by some of its members to the Coronavirus pandemic in terms of education provision. The 3CL has developed a list of resources for educators to support their efforts during the pandemic. These focus especially on educational technology and resources that are freely available, known as Open Educational Resource (OER).
