The complex relationship between truth, lies, and technology in the information age
In this video, we explore the complex relationship between truth, lies, and technology in the information age. We begin by acknowledging the social constructs of truth and how media has historically shaped society’s understanding of it. However, we also argue that the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has fundamentally changed this dynamic.
The video focuses on two areas where AI is impacting the information space: content and administration. It discusses concerns that AI-powered content moderation on social media platforms could disproportionately harm small nations and stifle free speech in democracies. Additionally,we explore the potential dangers of Generative AI, which can create highly realistic but fabricated content. This raises concerns about the future of truth on the internet, and the possibility of a “dead internet” saturated with misinformation.
Despite these challenges, the video doesn’t end on a purely negative note. We acknowledge the need to update our understanding of truth in the digital age. There is a glimmer of hope that through critical thinking and open discussion, we can navigate this complex landscape and ensure a healthy information environment.
